As a worldwide leader with a reputation for quality in agricultural, food and lumber production, Pennsylvania has much to offer.
Nearly 25 percent of Pennsylvania's land is in agricultural use, generating more than $4.9 billion in cash farming receipts annually. Leading agricultural enterprises include dairy, poultry and eggs, cattle and calves, greenhouse and nursery products, hogs and mushrooms. Significant quantities of fruits and vegetables are also produced.
More than 60 percent of Pennsylvania's land is in forest. Lumber, pulpwood and Christmas tree production are important primary economic activities. Lumber and pulpwood provide the basis for a wide variety of manufactured wood, paper and paperboard products industries.
Pennsylvania is known for the variety and quality of its manufactured goods. As a leader in food products, many food processing companies are located throughout Pennsylvania, particularly in the southeastern and southwestern parts of the state. Leading food manufacturing industries include meat packing, dairy products, poultry and egg processing, vegetable processing, chocolate and confectionery manufacturing, beverage and potato processing.
Pennsylvania is an important manufacturer of agri-machinery, chemicals, food processing equipment and forest product equipment.
